Paintings (掠れ - The Trace)
In Japanese tradition, the pine is a powerful symbol of longevity, steadfastness, and resilience, as it remains green and strong even through the harshest winters.
Bashō considered the pine central to the philosophical practice of writing haiku. He famously advised his students, "Learn about a pine tree from a pine tree," meaning the poet must detach from themselves, enter the object, and share its delicate life before a genuine poem can form.
